National Trails Day with REI a huge success!

On Saturday, June 5, thousands of REI members, customers and employees celebrated American Hiking Society's 18th Annual National Trails Day. REI partnered with Harris County Precinct 4 and Montgomery County Precinct 3 to clean, build, and maintain several multi-use trails along Spring Creek at Riley Fuzzel Rd.

Volunteers met at the old YMCA Camp Pine Tree which will be reopening as a Harris County Precinct 4 park as Pine Tree Park. Work groups were divided between the future Pine Tree Park and the new trailhead for the Peckinpaugh Preserve which is part of Montgomery County Precinct 3's new Spring Creek Gateway Complex. The 25-acre Peckinpaugh Preserve is permanently protected by a conservation easement with Legacy Land Trust. Nearby, over 300 additional acres are permanently protected by Legacy Land Trust. Volunteers received a FREE REI T-shirt and lunch provided by Commissioner Eversole and Commissioner Chance.
